#1 Stir the milk and vinegar together, allow to stand approximately 10 minutes, until curdled. #2 Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a Dutch oven with butter, then place in oven to preheat. #3 In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Gradually pour the milk and vinegar mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until the dough just comes together. #4 Turn the dough out onto a well-floured surface, knead a few times, and shape into a round. Carefully place the dough into the preheated Dutch oven. With a sharp knife, cut an X shape into the top of the dough, about an inch deep. This will help the bread release steam and keep its round shape. Cover with lid and place into the oven. #5 Bake about 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown.
